Atlanta Dream Shooting Stars Cheer Team Interview with Team Captains, Bianca and Jarri

The Atlanta Dream Shooting Stars Cheer Team for the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream is consists of dynamic dancers that take pride in higher education, career ambitions, and being role models for youth and the Metro Atlanta community. All members of the team must be a full-time student and/or have a full-time career. Thus, their team is well rounded with various talents ranging from dancing center court to leading a classroom. Their dance team is a high energy group of men and women who encompass a combination of styles and techniques and embrace diversity in the musical selections they choose to accompany their performances.

In the opinion of Bianca and Jarri, Team Captains, what separates their dance ;l from others is their relationship with their fans. Their games are very family-oriented and The Shooting Stars enjoy getting the opportunity to have personal connections with their fans.  In addition, they are a co-ed team of cheerleaders that dance various styles from hip hop to jazz to pop to pom. They are the only professional cheer and dance team in Atlanta that is co-ed, which is special to their team as well as their “trade secret” to being so versatile and unique. Also, the Shooting Stars is a small team, which allows them to build authentic relationships that go beyond the cheer and dance world.

The Shooting Stars has a “Star of the Game” and this “Star” receives a shooting star pin to wear until the next game.  Their proudest moment in being a part of the Shooting Stars has been passing the team “star” to her Rookie, Jessica. She loved being able to show her appreciation to her fellow teammates. To her, being a great performer is being able to see others greatness and be able to celebrate it and learn from it. In a world full of harsh critiques, it is awesome to be an active part of something positive, creative, and productive.

There are a few things that the Veterans tend to know about dance that the Rookies have not yet learned. Their team rookies are still adjusting to the time commitment that is required of the Shooting Stars. Also, they do not repeat dances. The Veterans tend to have the advantage of being able to learn and perform routines quickly with game day changes. It can be a challenge to apply corrections and memorize routines that quickly and at a high quality level. The basketball season is jammed packed! But their Rookies are awesome and have nailed each dance!

Their team goal this year is to adopt different genres of dance and to incorporate more styles of dance in their performances.  They also aspire to expand their presence in the Atlanta community through appearances and publicity. Anybody interested

Their team has 13 dancers with careers in education, health care, public relations, and more. Between 13 dancers, their team has over 20 degrees! They have both brains and brawns! The Shooting Stars are sincerely a colorful team.
