Bella Rosa Dance Academy Interview with Cydney Byron

The Bella Rosa Dance Academy in Beavercreek, Ohio, is co-owned by daughter and mother, Cydney Byron and Debbie Byron. According to Cydney, the Bella Rosa Dance Academy strives to provide dancers with a strong technical foundation and values the importance in all styles of dance.  They believe in teaching discipline, responsibility, and dance as a way of life.  Bella Rosa Dance Academy is committed to creating an atmosphere where the passion for dance is contagious and continuous. They enjoy developing the dancer as an artist by helping to build their confidence and growth from the inside out.

At Bella Rosa, they offer an array of training opportunities to students with a variety of commitment levels – Recreational, Performance, Competition, and Pre Pro.  Every dancer, starting as young as age 3, has the opportunity to learn proper technique in a structured, yet fun environment. Bella Rosa focuses on providing a well-rounded dance education, instilling a long lasting passion for the arts, and giving all of their dancers a multitude of opportunities to develop into the best dancer they can be.  They also provide their community with a professional, yet welcoming environment that encourages dancers to develop strong work ethic and positive peer support.

Cydney cannot really specify one event as her “proudest” coaching moment. She is constantly reminded from all of her dancers how proud she is of them throughout their years of growth and development.  Reminiscing with their teen dancers stories from when they were tiny dancers makes her so proud to have had a part in not only their dance journey but also an impact in their lives.  Watching the young dancers at their studio blossom and how their faces light up when they achieve a new skill brings out an indescribable feeling in Cydney as a teacher.  And, of course, she feels very fortunate to share this love for dance with her 10 year old daughter.  Her daughter’s passion for dance is continuously growing, as well as her talent, and to witness this makes Cydney a very proud teacher and mommy.

Technically, the biggest mistakes Cydney sees in dancers can all be fixed with a better understanding of their physicality and ballet technique. It is important for dancers to understand how their body works for them and against them.  If they are able to grasp this concept, then they will be able to focus on fixing corrections in ballet class, the results will start showing, and in return so will their confidence.

Cydney’s goal this year for the studio is to continue to educate their dancers in not only dance technique but valuable life skills, such as work ethic, responsibility, and character. She would love to see the passion for dance grow in the studio this year as well. She wants their dancers to feel successful every time they leave the stage, but to also have a clear understanding that success is not in the award or perfection of the routine but in the effort that was put in daily to prepare to perform.

Cydney always knew she wanted to own a dance studio.  When she was in her junior year of college, she started to implement her goal by writing a business plan, building a website, and looking for opportunities to lease a space.  She and her mother decided in summer of 2008 to go for it and open the studio.  Some like to express adversity within a business as ups and downs, but Cydney likes to think there have been years of growth and years of change. She and her mother are very proud to have developed their studio together and look forward to future years in this industry with their dance families who have made this possible with their support and belief in Bella Rosa Dance Academy.

Cydney grew up as an “Air Force Brat” constantly moving and was never able to truly be settled in a school, extracurricular activities, house, etc. She would not change anything about her childhood but when developing the mission of Bella Rosa Dance Academy, she wanted to provide a dance studio for the kids in their community, her daughter included, that she had wished she was able to have growing up. She wanted to give them opportunities to be inspired, cultured, and developed as a dancer and person with consistency and structure. She truly believes everyone has a place in this world and something they were meant to do. She also believes the game of life is to find your calling and work to make it reality. Work hard, Dream Big, and Be Inspired!
