Starpath Dance Academy Interview with Lindsey Kaplowitz

Starpath Dance Academy ShirtsStarpath Dance Academy, in Cary, North Carolina, offers students ages 18 months to 18 years old the opportunity to immerse themselves in a positive, energetic environment as they learn skills that allow them to develop into mature dancers. Starpath was founded by Lindsey Kaplowitz. Although Starpath is a new studio, Lindsey has been dancing for 27 years and teaching for 14 of them. She started training at a young age with former Radio City Music Hall Rockette Cheryl Andersen and then trained with Keith Banks as a teenager.  She has numerous dance accomplishments which are listed on Starpath’s website. While the thrill of being onstage is indescribable, Lindsey’s truest passion is sharing the joy of dance with her students and helping them fulfill their potential both inside and outside of the dance studio. Lindsey believes nothing can compare to the twinkle in a student’s eye and the smile across their face when they learn and perfect a new dance skill.

Starpath Dance Academy Chrismast PartyLindsey believes Starpath is different from other studios because they cater to all different dance goals – which is where the name “Starpath” comes from. Not all students want to become professional dancers, and not all go to class solely to make friends.  Starpath has developed “pathways” so that their students can choose what they want to get out of dance class and their instructors are best able to guide and nurture their students toward those goals whether they are to build confidence, have fun, or become professional dancers.

Since Starpath has just wrapped up their first year, Lindsey’s choice of her “proudest moment” is limited. At this point in time, her best moment was seeing all of their students up on stage showcasing what they had been taught over the course of the year during their June recital. Seeing everyone accomplish something so great was rewarding for all of Starpath’s instructors and staff.

Lindsey believes that the biggest detriment keeping a dancer from being at 110% each class is self-doubt. Some younger children get upset when they can’t do something correctly for the first time and some older children are embarrassed to get things wrong before they get them right. The instructors at Starpath teach them that they are all in this together and that the only way to get better at something is to practice it. “You have to crawl before you can walk!”

Starpath Dance Academy Childrens Ballet DancersLindsey’s goals for Starpath is to see their  new Performance Teams really build stage presence and enjoy the opportunity to give back to the community. She also wants their students to develop not just dance skills, but life skills to help them be the best people they can be.

She opened Starpath because she loves children, dancing, and spreading joy. She is passionate about all three of these things, and believes that they meld perfectly in owning a studio. She wants to encourage children and other people in their community and give them a positive outlet to learn and grow.
