Dance Connection in New Rochelle Interview with Linda Andrews

According to Linda Andrews, Owner of and teacher at The Dance Connection in New Rochelle, New York, (DC-NR) their studio has been open for 16 years and offers classes in ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop and ballroom dancing for children and adults.  (We recently wrote an article about a Dance Connection in Derby, New York. To differentiate between the two studios, we will refer to this studio as Dance Connection in New Rochelle or DC-NR.) The Dance Connection in New Rochelle is the winner of the 2013, 2014 and 2015 Best of New Rochelle Award for the best dance studio!

The Dance Connection has been a downtown New Rochelle “go to dance” destination for over fifteen years. It is in a very cool building filled with artists – painters, sculptors, jewelry makers and musicians. It is the perfect atmosphere for a dance studio. Adults, teens and children flock to the award winning studio to take dance lessons from Tap to Ballet and Hip Hop to Jazz plus Ballroom. Rockin’ Horse Dance Barn Interview with Dave Serfling

ballroomUnlike most of the studios we spotlight, The Rockin’ Horse Dance Barn in Renton, Washington, is an adult Social Dance Studio. They offer dance lessons in a variety of Ballroom, Country, Latin and Swing Dances as well as Line Dances. During the week there are lessons every night and some in the daytime. Friday nights provide a chance to have fun and dance. The night starts off with a dance lesson from 7 to 8 p.m. to get things warmed up. Then from 8 to 11 p.m., you can dance to a variety of music that works with all the types of dance taught during the week.

Dave Serfling. the Owner of the Rockin’ Horse Dance Barn, believes their studio is different from other studios because they teach dancing for fun, not competition or performance. Their dance lessons are mainly done in Group Classes. This keeps the dance lessons fun and social. Additionally, they do not use high pressure sales to sign anyone up for long term contracts. Legacy School of Dance, LLC, Interview with Kimberly R. Ligatti

TeamThe Legacy School of Dance, LLC (LSD) in Midlothian, Virginia, offers excellence in dance training for ages two through adult, beginning to advanced students. According to Kimberly R. Ligatti, their Artistic Director and Co-Owner, whether Legacy’s students dance strictly for recreation or they desire to have a profession in dance, they receive the same treatment. LSD is committed to developing the total dancer, through student-centered instruction, where students are trained in proper dance technique, and encouraged in scholastic achievement, giving the student a sense of pride and accomplishment. American Dance Academy Interview with Darlene Cummings

BDDanceAccording to Darlene Giordano Cummings, the Owner and Director of American Dance Academy (ADA) in Hockessin, Delaware, they are a wonderful studio that fosters the love of dance in their students.  They offer two performances for everyone per year, an Intensive Competition Program and fun events throughout the year.  Their staff works hard each week to refine technique so that each student can wor26k to their fullest potential.  They encourage friendships and smiles each week!

ADA was founded in 1993 by Darlene-Giordano Cummings. The facility offers top of the line floating dance floor,  state of the art equipment, and ballet barres. The curriculum includes pointe, ballet, tap, jazz, modern dance, hip-hop, modern dance, cheer/tumble and pre-school, intensive and adult dance programs for beginner through pre-professional levels.

Female DancersAmanda Allyne, Studio Owner and Artistic Director, describes High Definition Dance’s studio as a second home to their dancers.  High Definition Dance (“HDD”) in New Windsor, New York, is a child friendly environment that nurtures the inner spirit and provides a strong dance education. They aim to give their students the necessary resources to reach their potential and to achieve the unthinkable! Making Moves Dance Collective Interview with Kellie N. Sellers

V and HeiressMaking Moves Dance Collective (“MMDC”) in Beltsville, Maryland, is a family oriented studio that offers high level training and opportunities for recreational, competitive and pre-professional dancers.

According to Kellie N. Sellers, the Co-Executive Director, Making Moves’ mission is to provide a safe and positive arts environment to at-risk and underserved individuals in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area. Making Moves offers a quality and diverse dance environment to a community that is underrepresented in the arts.

Kellie believes that what separates MMDC from other studios ­­­is that MMDC encourages unity as opposed to divisiveness in the dance world.  Dance can be extremely competitive; however, MMDC personifies unity that dance can bring to the table.  They are supportive and encouraging of all other dance teams, studios and groups.  Their students and staff have developed meaningful bonds and lasting friendships with many other dancers. Generally, MMDC is one of the smallest studios at competitions. Even so, they always end up being a crowd favorite and earning the support and respect of all in attendance.

Creative Dance and Movement Interview with Jennifer Crowley

Jennifer Crowley is the Owner and Director of Creative Dance and Movement in a small studio Jennifer Crowley Ownerlocated in a rural part of Monterey County, California. They are a young studio now in their sixth year. Their largest population of dancers is infant through seven years old. However, they are very lucky to have a vibrant adult improvisation class as well. At Creative Dance Movement, they focus on dance as art and self-expression. Teaching creative movement and modern dance is their primary objective. Because art is meant to be shared, Creative Dance doesn’t view dance as something that belongs in a competitive arena. They teach ballet, but not classical style. Instead, they teach a creative ballet curriculum with large doses of exploration and sharing. They also have wonderful tap and jazz dance classes.

Jennifer believes Creative Dance and Movement differs from other studios because they strive to teach their students to express themselves creatively with their natural movement styles. Having been denied the opportunity to dance as a small child, Jennifer began dancing seriously later in life (her mid 30s) in classes that were predominantly taken by 17 – 20 year olds.
