Steppin’ Out Dance Company and The Next Step Dance Studio Interview with Darcey Sunken

Steppin’ Out Dance Company is Next Step Dance Studio’s competitive dance team and was created to develop a positive environment where serious dancers can grow as performers and technicians, as well as increase their self-esteem, self-discipline, and pride in their accomplishments. As members of Steppin’ Out, the dancers become more precise and enthusiastic, improve their dance technique, and learn how to be responsible team members. They value the process, not just the award at the end, and they encourage their dancers to appreciate all accomplishments, no matter how small. This process will help the dancers learn to respect others and themselves. It is also important to Steppin’ Out that their choreography and costumes are appropriate to each dancer’s age and technique level.

Darcey Sunken, is the Director and Head Coach of the Steppin’ Out Dance Company. Belly Motions, Inc. Interview with Luisa Molina

Belly DancingSpecializing in World Dances in a class format designed for adult women who want to start dancing at a later age, they offer authentic Middle Eastern, Indian, African, Hip Hop, Zumba and other specialty dance and fitness classes, Belly Motions, Inc., located in South Miami, Florida, is driven by a selective team of professionals dedicated to their students and the performing arts. Portia Lange, Founder and CEO, founded Belly Motions in 2005 in order to empower women of all ages through dances that celebrate differences in body shapes and sizes. For this article, we interviewed Luisa Molina, their Director of Business Development. Not only is Luisa the Director of both the KIDS Programs and Business Development, she is also a Belly Dance instructor and performer.

The staff has experienced many proud moments as Belly Motions’ instructors, but their favorites tend to be when they celebrate their students’ birthdays during their dance class!  This is a sure reminder not only that their students enjoy Belly Motion’s studio, but that they LOVE and want to be here to share their gratitude on their special days.

Studio 19 Dance Company Interview with Erin O’Hara

Stage PerformanceThe award winning Studio 19 Dance Company, in Rochester, New York, is a team, a family and is fondly referred to as a “second home” by many of their studio families. According to Erin O’Hara, Co-Owner and Co-Director, Studio 19 Dance Company instills a passion for dance! (Miranda Martin is Erin’s Co-Director and Co-Owner.) They offer classes for 2 year olds through adult students in ballet, jazz, tap, modern, lyrical, acro, contemporary, hip hop, musical theater, poise, confidence, discipline, anatomy, nutrition and more. They also offer creative movement classes specifically designed for children with special needs.

In Erin’s opinion, what makes them stand out from other studios is the fact that as a “family” they develop strong relationships with their studio families.  They cry, laugh, work and celebrate together.  But another aspect they pride themselves in is the fact that they are educating over choreographing.  They really jam as much knowledge as they can into their students – from anatomy to physics to history and what’s happening now in the dance world.  They care far more about respect for their art than a trophy any day!
