Ms. Lisa’s Dance Studio Interview with Lisa Schmiedeke

Lisa SchmiedekeLisa Schmiedeke, Owner, Director and Teacher of Ms. Lisa’s Dance Studio in Tampa, Florida, says that when a little girl walks into Ms. Lisa’s Dance Studio they seem to shine.  They will twirl with excitement as their imaginations and creativity come alive.  The teachers encourage their dancers while teaching them a strong technique. They offer all genre of dance at Ms. Lisa’s.

In Lisa’s opinion, their dance studio is unique among other dance studios for a number of reasons. At her studio, dancers start at 18 months of age with their Baby Ballerina classes and go up to high school students.  They are a family run business.  They strive to work on building each individual’s confidence while the student is learning strong ballet technique.  They want their studio to be a place where lasting friendships grow and develop.  Some of Lisa’s dancers have been with her for over 13 years and have told her their dance friends are their best friends.  They have both recreational and competitive dance teams.  In today’s society, young girls are often bullied and feel so much pressure amongst their peers.  At Ms. Lisa’s, they want their studio to be a place where their students can unwind and be themselves (more…)

West Chester University Dance Team Interview

WCUDTWest Chester University Dance Team, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is a group of driven and hard working individuals who are committed to success. They push themselves each season to do even better than the last. They are not only teammates, but by the end of the season consider each other as family.

Their program is entirely student-run which means they do not have a coach. The dance team has elections for student officers at the end of each year for the upcoming season in the positions of two Co-Captains, Treasurer and Secretary. It is up to the captains to oversee practices, organize events and appearances throughout the season, and obtain choreographers for their nationals routines. The West Chester University Dance Team is a sports club that performs at the men’s basketball games, homecoming and various other campus events.  It is also up to the team to create their own choreography for certain West Chester Universityperformance opportunities.

Even though their season has just begun, in this short amount of time they have set the standards much higher than years prior. They have accomplished things that they have never done before as a program. This summer they attended UDA dance camp at the University of Scranton alongside (more…)

This list is meant to highlight some of the awesome high school dance teams throughout the United States and in no way is meant to be a comprehensive list.  We here at BDancewear.com think that all dance teams are doing something amazing and deserve recognition!  This is a small list of some of the studios that we think are going above and beyond.  However if your dance team isn’t on this list and you think it should be feel free to leave a comment or email Brittany@BDancewear.com and we would love to write an article about your dance team.

 

1. Westmoore High School

Westmoore High School in Moore, Oklahoma, is the home of the defending 10-time in a row National Champions!!!!! Their Varsity Pom Squad won in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, two in 2014, and two in 2015. Westmoore’s Pom Dance Team (Jaguars) was awarded the national titles for 2014 and 2015 in both small varsity jazz and small varsity hip hop. That makes back-to-back double national titles!!!! They also won several state championships.

2. Murrieta Valley High School

Morton High School Maverick Belles Dance Team Interview with April Hunt

According to April Hunt, the director of the Morton Ranch High School Maverick Belles in Katy, Texas, Dance Performancethe Maverick Belles are hardworking and committed to their team. Although they have all levels of dancers, most come to the Maverick Belles with no previous training. They work together and strive to be the best technicians and performers they can be.

Morton Ranch High School first opened its doors in 2004. The Maverick Belles Dance Team became the first organization at Morton Ranch High School when they held tryouts in December, 2003 to form the first dance team. Eighteen charter members were selected and the traditions began! The Maverick Belles have been under the direction of the founding director, Kandy Lankford, and current director April Hunt. Over the past eleven years the Maverick Belles Dance Team has worked hard to establish traditions while leaving behind a legacy of discipline and success. Community involvement, team building, discipline and school spirit are all aspects of the Maverick Belles Dance Team. The Maverick Belles perform at football games, pep rallies, basketball games, fundraisers, and their annual spring.
