Studio of The Month – Showcase Dance Studios

The culture of the Showcase Dance Studio in Manassas, Virginia, is based on Misty Lown’s More Than Just Great Dancing model. They take pride in their family atmosphere that encourages academics while offering age appropriate curriculum’s, costumes and music. Crystal’s proudest moment as teacher occurred when her Company dancers received the “Technique Award” from On Pointe’s dance competition last year. This prestigious award is bestowed to the highest technique award out of the whole competition. Crystal said she was so happy she could cry! Legacy School of Dance, LLC, Interview with Kimberly R. Ligatti

TeamThe Legacy School of Dance, LLC (LSD) in Midlothian, Virginia, offers excellence in dance training for ages two through adult, beginning to advanced students. According to Kimberly R. Ligatti, their Artistic Director and Co-Owner, whether Legacy’s students dance strictly for recreation or they desire to have a profession in dance, they receive the same treatment. LSD is committed to developing the total dancer, through student-centered instruction, where students are trained in proper dance technique, and encouraged in scholastic achievement, giving the student a sense of pride and accomplishment. They offer classes in Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Pointe, Contemporary, Tap and Modern Dance. Most of these classes are also available in their Adult Dance Classes.

Kimberly and Mary Farr-Maynard, the other Co-Owner, describe Legacy as a place “where dance is more than just something you do, it’s a part of who you are!”

About Dance & More Interview with Sara Hoots

Sara Headshot All About Dance & More (AADM) in Mt. Sterling, Illinois, instills a child’s love for dance and tumbling.  At AADM, they build dancers self-esteem and self-discipline, and nurture young minds to be the best dancers they can be.  Since 2007, the surrounding communities around Mt. Sterling have entrusted student’s dance and tumbling education to AADM.  For ages 3 years old to adults, the studio offers classes, such as ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, hip hop, poms, cheer, modern dance, lyrical, tumbling and trampoline.  All classes highlight traditional dance techniques, age appropriate ballet and dance terms, unique choreography, and use of modern pop music.

In July 2014, AADM got a new home!  The studio is now located in a new facility having two dance studios, lobby area, full size gym area for tumbling and trampoline, and dressing room.  The studio is now able to offer much more to its students and staff.

American Dance Academy Interview with Darlene Cummings

BDDanceAccording to Darlene Giordano Cummings, the Owner and Director of American Dance Academy (ADA) in Hockessin, Delaware, they are a wonderful studio that fosters the love of dance in their students.  They offer two performances for everyone per year, an Intensive Competition Program and fun events throughout the year.  Their staff works hard each week to refine technique so that each student can wor26k to their fullest potential.  They encourage friendships and smiles each week!

ADA was founded in 1993 by Darlene-Giordano Cummings. The facility offers top of the line floating dance floor,  state of the art equipment, and ballet barres. Genesis Arts Interview with Lori Struss

RehearsalLori Struss, Owner of Genesis Arts in Columbia, Maryland, describes their studio as “Family.” She says they are all one-dance family where they accept each other’s strengths and weaknesses. They strive to compliment and support each other.

Genesis Arts offers training in dance, fitness, and musical theatre in order to help their students achieve their personal goals for confidence, health and happiness.

Genesis uses costumes, classroom attire, and music that is appropriate for the age of their students.  Also, they have wonderful professional teachers who come to work each day prepared to help those students achieve their goals! LEAP Interview with Claire Call

Stage performanceLEAP is DDC’s (Detroit Dance Collective) new creative dance company for children. LEAP, conceived in the fall of 2015, is offered to children of all ages and abilities by DDCdances, a Detroit metro based professional modern dance company currently celebrating its 36th season. DDC does not own a dance studio, therefore, the Borgo School of Dance in Royal Oak, Michigan, has generously provided space and a home to conduct DDC’s LEAP program. DDCdances is well known in schools and communities surrounding Royal Oak, Michigan, for their exciting classes for children of all ages and abilities. DDC provides a positive learning environment where boys and girls experience a joyful way to explore movement through music, develop physical skills, channel energy, stimulate imagination, and promote creativity.

LEAP will offer every child the opportunity to explore the arts, discover the creativity within them, celebrate their accomplishments, and share the products of their work with family, friends, and others. The Kennedy Dancers, Inc. Interview with Diane Dragone

Red Dress for BD DancewearThe Kennedy Dancers (TKD) is a non-profit professional, American dance company based in Jersey City, New Jersey. The company was founded by Artistic Director Diane Dragone in 1976, in an effort to bring high quality dance training and professional performances to the New York – New Jersey Metro area.  Since its inception, the company has grown to respond to the community’s special needs serving low income, at risk, incarcerated teens, and senior citizens through diverse dance classes offering fun, fitness, and performance opportunities.

TKD has grown to include a community dance school, dance programs in local public school systems, including programming designed specifically for the physically challenged, learning disabled and urban youth, dance programs for the elderly, and Dance Vista, a cable television program that focuses on emerging dance artists.

Their professional dance company dances a regular season each year in and around Jersey City. Each year the company’s public performances reach 6,500, and their touring performances reach an additional 2,000. The Kennedy Dancers tours have ranged the mid-Atlantic coast, from Washington, D.C. to New England. The company’s video has also been shown in international venues in France, Spain, Germany, Austria and Malta. Encore Dance Center Interview with Jaime Popard

Recital 1Established in 1998, Encore Dance Center (“EDC”) in Virginia Beach, Virginia, prides itself on being the best studio in the Hampton Roads area.  The studio offers professional, dedicated, and qualified instructors in a State of the Art Facility.
From a child’s first dance class to their graduation year and beyond, Encore has something for everyone.

In the opinion of Jaime Popard, Studio Director, Encore consistently remains a step ahead of other dance studios in an ever-changing dance world.  The studio offers both competitive, pre-professional and recreational opportunities for ages 2 through Adult in all levels.  Offering the best student/teacher ratio around allows the students to have individual attention and growth.

Jaime’s proudest moments coaching occur when she watches a beginner class work extremely hard, earning them several competition awards throughout the year.  The consistent progress is what makes her a proud instructor.

The biggest mistakes Jaime sees dancers make would have to be not applying corrections over time.  When a correction is given, it is because the instructor knows that it is fixable and wants to see the effort made by the dancer so that the correction does not have to continue to be given each week. Performance
