Studio of The Month – Showcase Dance Studios

The culture of the Showcase Dance Studio in Manassas, Virginia, is based on Misty Lown’s More Than Just Great Dancing model. Crystal’s proudest moment as teacher occurred when her Company dancers received the “Technique Award” from On Pointe’s dance competition last year. This prestigious award is bestowed to the highest technique award out of the whole competition. Crystal said she was so happy she could cry! Gainesville Dance Center Interview with Patricia Bray

At the Gainesville Dance Center (GDC) in Gainesville, Virginia, they believe that a student should leave his or her class with a strong sense of accomplishment. Instruction at Gainesville takes place in a nurturing environment. The discipline and commitment to be one’s full “self” is taught in their classes and they want that knowledge to stay with their students for a lifetime. The artistic facility at GDC places children, teens, and adults in classes appropriate to each individual’s level of ability and strength. Each class placement is determined by the age of the student and the number of years in training the student has acquired. Atlanta Dream Shooting Stars Cheer Team Interview with Team Captains, Bianca and Jarri

The Atlanta Dream Shooting Stars Cheer Team for the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream is consists of dynamic dancers that take pride in higher education, career ambitions, and being role models for youth and the Metro Atlanta community. All members of the team must be a full-time student and/or have a full-time career. Thus, their team is well rounded with various talents ranging from dancing center court to leading a classroom. Their dance team is a high energy group of men and women who encompass a combination of styles and techniques and embrace diversity in the musical selections they choose to accompany their performances.

In the opinion of Bianca and Jarri, Team Captains, what separates their dance ;l from others is their relationship with their fans. Their games are very family-oriented and The Shooting Stars enjoy getting the opportunity to have personal connections with their fans.  In addition, they are a co-ed team of cheerleaders that dance various styles from hip hop to jazz to pop to pom. They are the only professional cheer and dance team in Atlanta that is co-ed, which is special to their team as well as their “trade secret” to being so versatile and unique. Dawn Crafton Dance Connection Interview with Dawn Crafton

Three Young DancersDawn Crafton Dance Connection (DCDC) in Gaithersburg, Maryland, is considered a second home to most of their students. It is a warm, welcoming and supportive environment and they are just a big dance family. They have been around for more than 60 years and have taught generations of families in their community during that time.  The younger dancers look up to the older dancers and the older dancers take the little ones under their wings to mentor them.  Graduates and their families make it a point to come back for recitals, competitions and other activities to say hello and support the younger students.

Bella Danze Artz Interview with Diane Caputo

Diane Caputo Bella Danze Artz (“BDA”) in Westminster, Colorado, is owned and directed by Diane Caputo. They strive to teach proper and strong technique as well as confidence, discipline and showmanship! Bella Danze Artz teaches students from 3 years old through adult. They offer classes in Ballet, Tap, Musical Theater Dance, Jazz, Lyrical, Pom and Hip Hop!

Although BDA is only a few years old, the student body is largely made up of second generation students. Diane’s first school, Centre of Dance, was established in 1975 and run successfully for 31 years. After selling it and moving to Arizona, Diane returned to this area and opened Bella Danze Artz in 2012.  For Diane, it is so rewarding to watch her alumni’s children following in their parents’ steps and sharing the love of dance with them!

BDA’s mission is to create an exciting, well rounded dance education for students of all ages. They strive to implement professionalism as well as high standards, both artistically and environmentally. They take pride in running a school where students will learn the art of dance and expression!

TCU Showgirls Dance Team Interview with Lindsay Westbrook

TCU Showgirls Dance Team is the official name of the dance team for Texas Christian University in pomFort Worth, Texas. Lindsay Westbrook, the Texas Christian University Spirit Coordinator, describes the the TCU Showgirls being first and foremost a spirit squad for the university that cheers year round for football, basketball, and baseball. The team is made up of well rounded young dancers trained in jazz, hip hop, and pom who must also be positive representatives for the athletic program and for Texas Christian University. Known for their entertaining style of dance, big hair, and flashy uniforms, they embody the spirit of all that for which Texas is known.

In Lindsay’s opinion, the Showgirls Dance Team is different from most other college dance teams dancerbecause they cheer for four different sports teams: football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and baseball. This means that the girls don’t get a break during the school year and are expected to remain consistent in their skills, appearance, and stamina during the whole school year. And, of course, the white cowboy boots, custom made by Justin Boots, definitely sets the TCU Showgirls apart from other dance programs!
