Arthur Murray Dance Centers Interview with Morgan Laskey

Morgan LaskeyMorgan Laskey, the Boston Area Marketing Director for the eight Arthur Murray Dance Centers in the Greater Boston area was interviewed for this article. According to Morgan, with eight studio locations in the Greater Boston and New Hampshire area, Arthur Murray Dance Centers consider themselves the wicked’ best in teaching couples and singles how to dance the right way, the first time. Through their Arthur Murray Teaching Method consisting of one-on-one lessons, group classes, practice sessions, Arthur Murray competitions and events, students are not just learning how to dance, but rather learning how dance can change their lives.

Arthur Murray Dance Studios have taught thousands of students the art of ballroom dancing since the first lessons were taught over 95 years ago. Now, students in the greater Boston area can learn from experienced dance instructors fully trained in the Arthur Murray Method, which allows you to hit the dance floor with confidence after just a few lessons. Learn the tango, rumba, cha-cha, salsa, waltz, foxtrot, quickstep, merengue, hustle, swing, and many other dance styles in a supportive environment. Additionally, the Arthur Murray Method provides the student with lessons not only on specific styles, but also on the fundamentals and skills that can be applied to any type of dance.Social Image Quote rthur Murray Dance Studio

Their learning environment is fun, encouraging, and welcoming for any dancer at any level. They certainly do not discriminate against those with two left feet! Each student is given a personalized dance program that tailors to their particular needs and goals. Value is Arthur Murray Dance Centers’ mission. Each Arthur Murray student has the opportunity to take unlimited group classes and practice sessions while they are taking their one-on-one lessons with their instructor. Their system has worked for over 100 years, so that is what makes them different from the rest.

According to Jarrod Clark, one of the Arthur Murray Dance Centers’ Instructors, says he enjoys teaching because it is great being a part of his students’ growth. He likes seeing someone advance with their dancing, seeing how excited they are as movement becomes Group Picturemore natural, and they really start to feel the progress in their learning. Jarrod states he was definitely inspired to push himself in the studio by seeing how hard his parents (dance instructors, John and Carol Clark) worked.

The biggest mistake Morgan has seen dancers make is thinking that devoting their time to one lesson per week will be sufficient enough to learn how to dance. But, dancing is muscle memory. The more you consistently do something, the more you retain and repeat. To see any kind of progression, Arthur Murray Dance Centers encourage their new dance students to take at least two to three lessons per week with their instructor, while attending their group classes and social practice parties. They believe that practice makes progress, not perfection.

Arthur Murray Dance Centers’ goal every year at our eight Boston area studio locations is to change people’s lives through dancing. People from all walks of life come into their studios hoping that dance can change their lives in one way or another. They have helped rekindle marriages, and even watched marriages happen! They have helped people cope with the loss of a family member or a really bad breakup. They have been a number one fan for those students who dream of being on Dancing with the Stars one day. To them, it does not matter how elaborate someone’s needs are or how wild their dance dreams are. No matter what, their goal at Arthur Murray is to provide them with the best experience and give them the dance skills they need to achieve their goals.

Arthur Murray believed that if you can walk, you can dance! Murray grew up a very shy, and somewhat socially awkward, kid. He wanted to find a way to fit in and feel comfortable in a crowd. At the age of 14, he learned his first dance steps. By 17, he was teaching dance atDancing the Grand Palace in New York City. In 1920, Murray organized the world’s first “radio dance.” He then went on to write several books and brochures to promote the social aspects of dance. By 1940, Murray opened his first studio in Miami, Florida. The longevity of Arthur Murray Dance Centers is a result of excellent customer service, unparalleled social dance instruction techniques and experienced corporate management that carries on the tradition of excellence started by Arthur himself in 1912.
