Aspire Dance Studio Interview with Alexia Liavas

Aspire Dance Studio in Thousand Oaks, California, is owned by Alexia Liavas who is also the Company Director, a Choreographer and one of the teachers at the studio. Aspire’s mission statement is “We nurture and feed the soul, body and mind through dance.”  It is a place of nurturing through dance.  They teach their dancers to be the best they can be—not only in dance, but also in life.

In Alexia’s opinion what separates their dance studio from other dance studios is the fact that Aspire truly has amazing teachers who care about each and every student.  Each student dancing at Aspire is not just a number in a class, but an individual.  According to Alexia, they are there to help each student reach their highest potential and to be their best!  They also honor the artistry and history of dance, and go beyond just teaching “steps.”

Aspire offers beginning through advanced dance classes for students from 2 years old through adult. The classes they provide include Toddler Classes, Ballet, Pointe, Hip Hop, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, Modern, Stretch & Strength, Tumbling, Jazz Technique, Musical Theater, Boy’s Classes and classes specifically for teens and adults.

In addition to offering dance classes, Aspire is the home to two dance companies – the Prism Adult Dance Company and the Aspire Youth Company and Competition Team (AYC). AYC is a national award-winning team that competes at various prestigious dance conventions and competitions, and also performs at many fun local community events!  AYC provides a positive environment for dancers to learn, perform, build self-confidence, and be part of a team. It is a true dance family, and the dancers who are a part of it make lifelong friends and create lifelong memories! AYC consists of the Jazz Crew, Tap Crew, Ballet Crew, Hip Hop Crew and the Mini Jazz Crew.

Alexia has had many proud moments during her dance career.  Of course, winning awards and being recognized in such a way is always fun. But, for Alexia, her proudest moments are seeing her dancers walk off stage with pride, witnessing a student accomplish something they never thought they could, and hearing the kind words her dancers speak of one another are what make her the proudest.  Watching her former students make their way through the dance world while accomplishing amazing things also makes her extremely proud.

As a dance teacher, she is always looking for technical achievement.  So, of course, she looks for those mistakes and teaches her students how to fix them.

Her goals for this year are to have a wonderful competition season with her competitive dancers, and to have a wonderful recital season with all of the dancers at the studio. She wants to keep growing their recreational and competitive programs, and to have her dancers, her teachers, and her studio grow and thrive

Dance has always been the most important part of Alexia’s life.  Choreography and teaching are her passions as a dancer, and after many years of teaching at various studios and coaching at various schools I wanted to create my own space for a future generation of dancers to learn, grow, and thrive.

Alexia is honored and grateful to be able to do what she loves every day with an amazing group of teachers, students, and supportive dance parents.  Dance has changed her life, and she hopes it changes the lives of the dancers at Aspire as well.
