Epic Dance Studio Interview With Loren Sparks

rcg_4216Epic Dance Studio is a young, innovative studio located in Edmond, Oklahoma. They teach Jazz, Hip Hop, Ballet, Pointe and Contemporary forms of dance to students 3 years old to 17 years old. They cater to the whole student, by their nurturing approach to mentor each dancer to reach their full potential.

In the opinion of Loren Sparks, the Owner of Epic Dance, their studio stands out from other dance studios due to their unique approach in developing each individual dancer based on their personal love of dance. They also choreograph their own competition dances, and make their own costumes!

Loren’s proudest moment coaching occurred when they won first place at the Encore Nationals in Las Vegas, Nevada. They also were awarded the 2013 Showstopper National Champions award in Galveston and the 2015 Encore National Grand Slam Champions!

She believes that the biggest mistake that dancers make has to do with technique, technique, technique! As a ballerina, she advises that students find a good studio that focuses on technique, and then practice as much as they can!

Her goal for Epic Dance for this year is getting their growing studio to become more passionate about dance!!

She began her dance education at the age of three years old in Torrington, Connecticut, where she was taught in the Vaganova technique of classical ballet at the Nutmeg Conservatory for the Arts. She studied with many known choreographers and teachers for the next 15 years including Elena Tchemichova, Sharon Dante, Kevin Martin, and Eleanor D’Antuono. She was also a student at The Joffrey Workshop in San Antonio, Texas. Loren competed in the Youth American Grand Prix in New York City, where she received honorable mention. She later moved to Oklahoma so that she could dance with Ballet Oklahoma.

Loren has performed in many ballets including Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, The Nutcracker, Les Sylphide, Romeo and Juliet and many more. After dancing with the company for seven years, she realized that it was time to find her next path in life. She knew what she had to do next. She knew how much she loved dance and children, and believed that translated to opening her own studio. Plus, she had a strong desire to share her love of dance with others

She was trained in classical ballet at Nutmeg Conservatory of the Arts in Torrington, CT for 15 years, before going on to Ballet Oklahoma as a company member for 8 years.

  1. My daughter is starting her 4th year at Epic and I just can’t say enough nice things about the instructors, kids, parents, and dedication to growing a love of dance in each and every student. Loren’s approach to teaching her students is a refreshing change from other competition studios in the area. My only regret about switching to Epic is that we didn’t do it sooner!
