How to Put A Band On the Bottom of Booty Shorts

In this video, I am going to show you how to create a band on the bottom of booty shorts. Sometime shorts start to rise up when dancing especially when doing a lot of acrobatics and the band helps hold everything into place. It will make a huge difference when you are dancing!

Supplies:

  1.   Shorts
  2.   Fabric
  3.   Sharpie
  4.   Ruler
  5.   Piece of Paper

Directions:

  1. Mark and Cut

The first thing we want to do is decide how thick we want the band to be. I am going to do a 1 inch band so I am marking the bottom of the shorts at the 1 inch area giving it seam allowance. Now I am going to cut it making sure that the front and back match up. The piece that you just cut off, cut in half and then measure it. This piece is 18 inches so I would recommend taking off 1 ½ inches for the band you will make.

  1. Mark the Measurements on The Pattern Paper/Old Sheet

Now we are going to take a scrap piece of paper, cardboard is the best. Mark a straight line across so you can begin there. Mark the 16 ½ inches in length. Since we want the band to be 1 inch plus seam allowance we will give the width of the strip 2 ½ inches. Now cut out the pattern. I am going to mark on each side the seam allowance and the fold down the center.

  1. Sew The Bands On The Shorts

With the strip that you cut out from the pattern, fold it in half. Sew down the right sides together and stitch them back and forth. Stretch the fabric and stretch it making sure none of the stitches snap. If they do, go back and stitch it to make sure it is sturdy before you put the rest of it together. Once it is properly stitched, turn the fabric tube right side out and fold it in half. Pin the pieces together. Fold the leg hold in half aligning it with the band and pinning it together. Now put it under the machine, making sure all 3 pieces are lined up and hold it gently while sewing it. Once you are done, stretch it again to make sure it doesn’t snap. Flip it around and now you have your band on the shorts!
