In this videos I will show you how to recover your outside lounge chair. It is super easy to do. You’ll gonna wonder why you haven’t being doing it all along. The reason why you wanna do something like this your self is because it’s very expensive to have that. Just make sure use outdoor fabric when your doing it. - Choosing Your Materials
Ok so I taken off the cover that I made, probably about five years ago completely shredded from the sun definitely you wanna pick Sunbrella is one of the best ones or one of the companies that gives you guarantee, unfortunately I really fell in love with a pattern, the last pattern and it actually it lasted quite long but some if the companies that make their own outdoor fabric last maybe one or two years. It’s less expensive but you will be replacing it time and time again. And It’s a lot of work. We have a lot of furniture, so when I go to recover it. I takes forever and there was one product that I got. I am not gonna name names, but they said that they guarantee it six months, that is silly, that outside fabric I should have listen, I really lasted six months. It started fading, if I wiped it there was a problem. Pick a company that has a good reputation. So want I have done here, I put zippers in it and you can take it off and wash them, Makes putting them together so much easier.
- Cutting the fabric
Here’s the fabric that I pick and fold them in half and you’ll wanna be careful because the line on the edge with holes with it. Don’t want that to be part of your item you wanna make sure that it’s cut off or on the inside that nobody can see. So I took my chase lounge cover and I’m gonna go ahead a lay it right here and you can even it up. Now you can mark it if you want but I am pretty comfortable going free hand with it. I am going by the seam allowance. It already here. You do wanna over lock with these covers make sure that’s flush all the way down. We wanna go even. Let’s get our scissors. We will cut of this piece. I wanna make sure I we have a lot of allowance for me to sew in so when people sit on it, it will not start to unravel. So we will go there. And then it’s in the very top touching. This is a very big piece and harder to work on, what I am gonna do is I gonna wrapped itself. So in that way I feel confortable pulling this one up. Hold on to it tightly and then re adjust the bottom here. Make sure that there is not lumps or bumps underneath and realistically its way in you should be cutting the same amount all the way down. Don’t lose the Sis. Sometimes they folder up in there. It can cause hundreds and Hundreds of dollars we you have somebody sew this for you. I definitely sew this yourself. Make sure there is no wrinkles. Fold it down A little bit more. You wanna be careful when you fold it doesn’t push it down. Double check that when it’s done by lay it on the floor make sure that it’s all even. I have little pockets on the side because I have a big foam. So I know when I lay it flat that’s the length that I wanted we want each sides consistent. Cut excess cloth. And it’s really that easy. Just to cut this out and you will save so much money. Make sure choose a fabric that will last. It’s time consuming doing all of this
- Sewing the Lounge cover
Sew it like you are sewing down a side of a hotdog bun. I will place where I want the zipper to start. You can buy a zipper on a roll or as long as you want. I will lay the fabric where I wanna zipper to be placed. Sew the zipper inches away from the top. You can pin it down if you want. You can pin it if you are a beginner sewer. Sew a zigzag. You can pick up a thread like a UV thread that will last longer in the sun. That is important if you wanna keep it there a long time. It’s a little thicker. Sew it all the way down. You can keep the zipper exposed or you can cover the zipper. If are new you can Iron it down to be on place. It’s up to you. A few techniques when sewing the other side. I always sew it with the fabric on the bottom side. Match up the length on the top and the bottom. Sew the zipper on the fabric so it will not stretch. Pin it a lot so you can stop it from gathering. Now you can go ahead and sew over those fabric if you are not using UV Fabric. Now let’s go to the top part of the zipper and pin it between the teeth to cover over the zipper. So we will fold the zipper in half. And move the teeth out of the way so we don’t have a problem and I am gonna pin that and I am gonna take it, You can do a little more seam allowance and I am gonna go straight down and get the zipper out of the way and I gonna match up a little above that top line there. The reason why I am going above because we are not on the same as the beginning of the teeth there and I am gonna do that on the other end of the zipper same thing I am comfortable not using pins but if it’s your first time definitely use pins You have less ripping out of some pins to do now the key to this one is to make sure that the zipper pull is completely out of the way or you will break a zipper and a needle. Make sure it matches down the center. Now unzip. And sew the other side to put it together. If you don’t have a seam on this other side. Start from the open side so it will naturally go in the half way point and make sure to you don’t end up with weird little spots and make sure to back stitch. When you cushion is really fat I will take the top seam make a triangle and fold it half. And make a seam and I measured that and that is the 3 inches that I need. Make sure to back stitch and repeat that in all four corners. And re enforce where the zipper meets the fabric. Make a stop point so the zipper won’t come off on either end. Replacing your cushion is really easy. Give it a try and I will promise you it will be fun. You can say yourself you did that and save a lot of money.
