Lora’s Academy of Dance Interview with Lora Wood

LoraLora’s Academy of Dance in Peoria, Arizona, is a multi-award winning studio in their tenth year! Their studio is not like any other studio in town. According to Lora Wood, the Owner and Director, it is the goal of Lora’s Dance Academy to push every student to achieve their goals in dance as well as in life! The staff feels that it is important to begin teaching every student proper techniques and skills from the beginning of the students’ dance experience. Classes are offered at every skill level and the dancers will be placed in the proper class level which will allow them to feel comfortable, grow, and get the most out of their dance experience. With their instructors’ caring and personal teaching techniques, each dancer will be able to fulfill their complete potential.

Lora’s Academy of Dance is a dance family. As a consequence, it is important that they respect all instructors, dancers and the dancers’ family members. Any distasteful behavior is not be tolerated.

In Lora’s experience, Lora’s Academy of Dance strives to provide a safe, family friendly atmosphere for the dancers to call their second home and, indeed, they have become a second home to their dancers and their dancers’ families. They also believe that providing proper technical training in a fun learning environment is a must. They are not only building dancers but preparing each of their students to grow and become successful adults. They cater to dancers who only take one class per week, or those who have dreams of being on Broadway. Their goal is to push every dancer to become the very best they can be and to help make their dreams come true.

Lora’s Academy of Dance is separated from other dance studios by their amazing staff. The amount of love and dedication that they have for each of their students is not like any other studio. All of their staff is trained dancers, who continue to train to be able to provide the best education for their students. In Lora’s opinion, Lora’s Academy of Dance, aka L.A. Dance, is unlike any other studio in town. It is their goal to push every student to achieve Group Picturehis or her goals in dance as well as in life! They believe that with their caring and personal teaching techniques, dancers will be able to fulfill their complete potential. The staff at Lora’s Academy feels that it is important to begin teaching all students proper techniques and skills from the beginning of their dance experience. Classes are offered at every skill level and dancers will be placed in the proper class level which will allow them to feel comfortable, grow, and get the most out of dance.

Another way that they are different is that they say a prayer before each and every one of their performances or shows.

According to Lora, her proudest moments coaching is being able to watch all of her dancers grow! She has been blessed to be able to start training many of them since they were pretty much babies. Many of her “babies” are now in Junior High and High School. Watching all of them accomplish so much is heart filling. Being able to watch them become beautiful dancers is of course icing on the cake!

Lora believes the biggest mistake that dancers make is giving up on themselves and their talent! So many times dancers feel overwhelmed or become “to busy” to continue what they love to do. It becomes easier to walk away from something that may free your time, than to figure out how to juggle all the things that need to be done. She believes that dance is a God given talent. It breaks her heart to see dancers turn away from something they love so much and are so talented at. Those that have “quit” dance ALWAYS look back and regret doing so. She says, “If you’re thinking about quitting, DON’T! There is always a way to make it all work! All of your dance teachers did it, so can you!!”

Her goal for this year is to reach out to our community more. They are beginning classes for special needs children in our local area. They are also taking part in local charity events. She feels that it is very important to be part of our community and have the dancers help give back.

Lora has always wanted to open a studio since she was little. She loves to dance, to teach and to work with children, so she knew this was what she wanted to do! L.A. Dance is a Dancersnewer studio. Lora started the studio in 2005 in a community center. Classes were held on a basketball court with no mirrors or barres. In 2009, they finally moved into the store front where they are currently located. Finally being able to have a real studio has made a huge difference!

One of the biggest struggles of owning a dance studio is being a mommy of three little boys . . . trying to juggle being the best mommy and wife that she can be, while balancing the studio!
