Patti Woffinden, the Owner of MVP Dance Elite in Beaverton, Elite, says their studio provides dancers with a well-rounded foundation across the different dance forms which will enable them to pursue a professional career while promoting creativity throughout their various companies and training programs.
Patti believes there are two things that separate their studio from others.
- MVP feels that it takes a village to create a well-rounded dancer. They encourage their dancers to explore conventions and other classes in the area. By doing this, it gives the dancer exposure and additional growth to different teaching and choreography styles.
- They offer a pre-professional program for dancers. This program has been created to cater the needs of those dancers that are looking to pursue a career in dance primarily as a Commercial Dancer, as well as equip them with both the training and the knowledge necessary to make their way, survive and excel in the industry.
Patti can’t say there is “one” proud moment she has had coaching, but a daily overall feeling of pride. That pride comes from watching each and every dancer grow and evolve as individuals, knowing that their studio played a part of who they have become and where they are going.
The biggest mistake that Patti sees dancers make is to compare themselves with other dancers. She continuously preaches that they should only try to better oneself each and every day. This is not limited to just dance, but them as individuals as well. Having something to work for is one thing, but having the mindset that you will never be as good as someone else will only hinder one’s own personal growth.
Patti has several goals this year.
- To find a new location that can house all four studios in one space. Currently they have three studios at their main building and one studio located on the street behind them.
- Revamp and upgrade their current computer and phone systems.
- Change the look and functionality of their website.
- Continue to enhance each of their programs that they offer at MVP
with the assistance of my good friend and colleague Lorena Aranda, MVP’s Artistic Director.
Patti started MVP Dance Elite because “There was an opportunity to purchase the studio many years ago and a friend of mine talked me into it (lol).” Most importantly, dance has also always been a passion of hers. Owning MVP has given her the opportunity to continue to be a part of something that she feels so strongly for, and gives her the opportunity to share that love with others that have the same passion and drive that she had.
MVP Dance Elite offers classes from three years of age to adult in tap, jazz, ballet, contemporary, hip hop, breaking, acro and acting. They are currently in their tenth year of existence and currently have 18 instructors on staff, each with extensive knowledge and passion for the art.
