Studio 4 the Arts has two locations – one in Powder Springs and one in Hiram, Georgia. Both The Powder Springs Studio and the Hiram Studio have three dance studios, a Tumble Center, a dressing room, a break/homework room, a lobby and an office. However, only the Powder Springs Studio has three music rooms.
Tammy Anthony is the owner and the Director of Studio 4. Tammy began her dance training at the age of three in Alabama. She became an assistant teacher at 13 years of age, while continuing her dance training in Ballet, Pointe, Lyrical, Tap, Jazz and Hip Hop. She was a competitive dancer at Bobbies School of Dance. During this time she trained in the Dance Masters of America conventions in Georgia and Alabama where she received training from several tap legends such as Gregory Hines. She has performed at various fine arts events including the Panoply of the Arts. While continuing her classical dance training, she was also a member of her high school and college dance teams, winning awards such as Overall Star Dancer and various choreography awards. She also earned a Business Management and Marketing Degree from the University of North Alabama.
Studio 4 offers classes in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, tumble, music and voice for both the recreational and serious student for all ages from 2 years old to adult. Studio 4 also has a Company Dance program. The Company consists of a Competition Team, a Performance Company, and a Hip Hop Company and their Company dancers have performed in their community, on a cruise ship, at Atlantic Hawks’ games and for Outreach events. The Company does a Christmas Ballet every year and has won many awards at competitions in the southeast area. Studio 4 has grown so much this past year that they just added a second location! Currently, Studio 4 has 350 students and with their new location, they have plenty of space for more growth in the future.
Tammy’s objective as a dance teacher is to share her training, knowledge and her love of dance with all of her students and to give every child their moment to shine. Her desire is to ensure that every one of her students and their parents have a satisfying and rewarding experience. At Studio 4 the Arts, they offer quality and age-appropriate instruction and embrace all students that join their performing arts “family.”
Studio 4 offers a diverse dance program. They pride themselves on the level of technique that their dancers possess. The ability for a dancer to be strong in every genre of dance is key. At Studio 4, they have held strong to their principals. During this age of “competition only” studios, their Company Dancers are trained each week in ballet, contemporary, lyrical, tap, jazz, and tumble. They do not pull students from ballet class to practice for a competition. They are a bit “old school” in thinking that it takes time to become a well-rounded dancer. They teach their students how to dance, not just dance to get a trophy; although they get plenty of those, also.
Tammy’s proudest moment as a dance director has not been just one moment.. It is not a trophy or even a good performance. Tammy feels the proudest of her teen dancers. These teen girls have grown with her through the years. They have all turned into well-rounded individuals. One thing you realize when you walk into Studio 4 is that they are different from other studios. There is none of the drama you see on TV. Their older dancers are mentors to the younger ones. They help them, teach them, hold their hands, tie their shoes, et cetera. Their tight dance family, students and parents, gives Tammy the greatest joy!
In Tammy’s opinion, one of the biggest mistakes she sees dancers make is when they try to get from one Point A to Point B too fast. Dance is an art that takes time, hard work and dedication and ballet class is key. If you miss too many ballet classes, you cannot do things in contemporary or jazz that your friend can do because she went to class. All dancers should listen in every single class, work hard, practice outside of class, and never, ever, ever give up a chance to dance. Any class is a learning experience.
It is hard for Tammy to express her goals for this year because she has so many. Her top goal for this year was opening their second location which has now been accomplished. It is now opened but getting the second location up and running was a huge task and it is well on its way to serving more families in their area.. In five short years of being in business, Studio 4 has made improvements to their studio every year – top notch dance rooms with top notch instructors.
Tammy started her studio because she wanted a studio that produced triple threats – dancers that are amazing in all genres of dance. She wanted a studio that could not only teach dance, but offer music, voice, and tumble lessons – a studio that produced well-rounded individuals, that encouraged students to participate in Outreach in their community. She pretty much wanted it all and she wanted to be able to offer all of those things to students in her area.
