The Dance Department is a leader and innovator in the field of dance, with a diverse, world-class faculty and state-of-the-art dance facilities, including its own theatre. The curriculum is designed to develop well-rounded dance artists living and working within a global and technological community. Contemporary dance is foundational to the degree programs, and is enhanced by the study of somatic practices, ballet and cultural dance. Students have prolific performance opportunities, interactions with nationally renowned guest artists and master class instructors including the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, Pilobols, Meredith Monk, Elizabeth Streb, David Parsons, and Tim Miller. Degree programs emphasize individual growth through creative investigation, innovation, and rigorous dance training. The Dance Department offers scholarships to talented students in need as well as summer awards, which have most recently been awarded for travel to Brazil and Taiwan to study and perform abroad over the summer. The Dance Department creates, investigate ad practices dance as a dynamic and integrative process of self-awareness, interdisciplinary learning and engagement with local and global communities.
