We have not yet had the opportunity to interview the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Dance Team, if you are associated with the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Dance Team please have someone from the team email us at Brittany@BDancewear.com to set up an interview (only takes a few minutes and it’s free).
In the meantime here is some quick insights about this Worcester Polytechnic Institute Dance Team from their website.
The Worcester Polytechnic Institute has two dance teams. The first is the typical dance team that performs at athletic events and the second team is a Ballroom Dance Team that competes as a team. The Worcester Polytechnic Institute Rockets Dance Team performs during halftime for basketball games and for various events on campus as well as competitions during the year. The rockets consist of several lovely ladies and one sole male dancer. In addition to performing at games, they also hold their annual showcase at the end of the school year that benefits the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and the Celiac Disease Foundation (CDF). The JDRF was chosen as their coach has a history of the disease in her family. The CDF was chosen as a charity to benefit because it typically affects most of the same age group as those in college and one of the team members has celiac disease herself. In addition to their annual recital, they raise money for the JDRH and CDF by selling tickets to fill Alden Memorial and organizing a bake sale. The Rockets also invited local studios to dance with them in their showcase. The group spends the entire year meeting multiple times a week and practicing various dances choreographed by members themselves.
WPI’s second dance team is a Ballroom Dance Team that offers many opportunities for dancing at their weekly lessons, social dance trips, and competitions. In addition to their weekly lessons where they invite dancers to socialize, practice, and warm-up before the evening’s lesson starts, they often make trips, as a team, to other colleges and studios for social dances. This is a great way to meet other dancers and practice all they have learned. They are also very active on the competition scene, and many of their members choose to follow a more competitive track. They compete at approximately 12 major competitions throughout the year.
