Artistic Designs Dance Company Interview with Jolene Indolfi

Jolene Indolfi.Artistic DanceAt Artistic Designs Dance Company in North Syracuse, New York, they believe that dance can be so many things and they try to bring as many different disciplines and teaching styles to their dancers as they can. According to Jolene Indolfi, the co-owner and artistic director of Artistic Designs Dance Company ( ADDC ), they are a new studio on the rise for great things. They dream big, set high standards, and go for big goals!

They are always traveling to seek new styles or methods to incorporate into their classes. They love to bring in guest faculty for their students to learn from, and they have found that by allowing their dancers to go out and grow and learn from many, they appreciate where they come from and have a true sense of home when they are in the studio. They believe that all dance should be respected and that there is much to learn from anyone willing to teach. Dance truly is a gift to be shared and that’s what they teach their students. They try to teach their dancers true artistry alongside technique.

According to ADDC’s management, Artistic Designs Dance Company is a highly diverse, brand new style of dance studio for Liverpool and the surrounding area!  They are committed to making all of their dancers the best they can be, whether in one of their many recreational programs or on one of their competition teams.  Dancers from 2 years 0ld to 18 years old will have the opportunity to succeed and grow in any number of classes ranging from pre-dance to musical theater to modern.

Champion.ArtisticBeing a new studio, Jolene believes that it feels like their “proudest moments” happen every day. One of the things they have taken the utmost pride in has been the way their dancers have grown to support each other. Whether in class, at competitions, or even in life in general, they have watched a group of dancers truly come together and find joy and pride in their own accomplishments, their teammates’ accomplishments, and their studio’s accomplishments.  Watching them be genuinely happy for, and proud of, each other is something they think is pretty special.

Aside from watching her own students perform, Jolene also judges competitions. She can tell when a dancer is in their routine wholeheartedly or when they are just going through the motions. Jolene said, “You can be a beautiful technician but, if you aren’t connected to what you are doing, then the piece will never come together for you.” When a dancer can truly understand the motivation behind the movement and can convey meaning and tell a story, then Jolene stops watching for little things wrong and she becomes an audience member who is just happy to watch the dance. The best way to fix this problem, in Jolene’s opinion, is for the dancer to know their music inside and out now what it is about, how it makes the dancer feel, and what the dancer wants to tell their audience.

The staff at ADDC strives to bring top quality dance instruction to their students in a creative, artistic, and positive environment. Whether working with recreational dancers or intensive study students, ADDC provides enjoyable and disciplined instruction at every level. They utilize a modern and contemporary style fused with classic dance technique.  ADDC instills the importance of the growth through the dancer’s own creativity.  Teamwork, commitment, dedication and, of course, fun are all elements they teach to their dancers everyday!

The Company dancers and their parents are very thankful to ADDC’s Booster Club for their hard work Ballet.Artisticthis year.  The Club has provided ADDC’s Company dancers with many fundraising opportunities that allow the dancers to go far beyond anything they thought possible.  Many of the Company dancers attended seven regional competitions this past year plus their FIRST EVER national dance competition in Myrtle Beach. These competitions are in addition to their many workshops.  For many of them, they would not be able to attend all of these without the help of the Booster Club. Their fundraisers include refreshments sold at their Spring Showcase, a Spring Performance Flower Pre-Sale and, finally, their biggest fundraiser of the year, a golf outing that included a chicken barbecue dinner.

ADDC uses Bailar Dancewear (BDancewear.com) because the color choices are fantastic! They can always find that perfect shade of booty short for under a skirt which makes the whole costume come together. The little things matter so much when putting together a piece and Bailar  puts the icing on the cake.

ADDC ’s goals for 2015 are to grow in every way possible – physically, artistically, technically, and emotionally! They started with 20 dancers and have grown to over 100 in less than one year and each of them impresses  ADDC  every day!”

Jolene and her partner, Danielle Patterson (“Ms. Danielle”), started Artistic Designs Dance Company because they felt that there was nowhere in their area for dancers to get the kind of instruction they can provide. They wanted to provide a place where dancers could come and study intensely in a supportive environment. They wanted to teach dancers to respect their fellow dancers no matter where they may dance because dance is universal and they all share the same passion. They wanted to teach their students hard work ethic, and to have confidence in themselves, but to remain humble and respect the work of others around them as well.
