Different Styles of Dance Briefs

Hi, I am Cyndi from B Dancewear. In this tutorial/video, I am going to show you  the things you want to look for when purchasing dance briefs from us or someone else.

  1. Regular Briefs

First up, we have our regular briefs. These are the traditional, standard briefs that can be worn under any costume.  The thing that is great about our briefs is that we have a nice  wide crotch. Something that you are going to want to think about when you are buying a pair of briefs is you do not want to get them too big. You want to make sure you have the right size. The most important point is the size of your hip. That will be the most important to double check.  Secondly, are you an adult or a child?  Do not pick a child’s size just because the hip is right. Go with the adult extra small. Think about that. A child’s brief may fit in the hip but you also need to consider at the girth and the hip measurement so that you get yourself in that right category. Therefore, you will need to include the girth in your measurements. The waistline is not really as important as the hips and the girth because the natural waistline is higher on the body than the brief’s waistband will rest.  The natural waistline is actually that smallest part of the torso. It helps to gauge how to curve the sides of the briefs. So, there is definitely room with the elastic so that it has room to stretch and give. If your natural waistline is a little wider, it should not make much of a difference.

As I mentioned previously, we go a little bit wider in the crotch of our briefs than some manufacturers. The reason for that is I have seen a lot of times when a girl does a leg extension or is on silks or something and she is just way too exposed. So we try to go with a wide enough crotch so that no matter what you are doing you will have the extra coverage.

Again, make sure you get the brief that fits properly so that you do not end up with extra bunching in the center front or in the back. Also, you want to make sure that it is nice and snug on the hip.

  1. Low Rise Brief

The next brief I am going to show you is our Low Rise Brief. It is cut exactly the same as our standard brief except for the height. The reason you might a low cut brief is if you have a lowered back top it looks awful if you can see that “V” come down and you can see part of your brief.  Additionally, some people just like it a little skimpier or they want to add a skirt to the top and they do not want the higher coverage. Our low rise brief is one inch shorter than our regular brief. It is not that much different but it is just enough if you want a little less coverage.

  1. High Waisted Brief

Next, we have our High Waisted Brief. Just like our shorts, the waistband can be folded down which is great if you want to put a skirt or something over them and  then tack the band over the top of the skirt. It will cover that top edge of the skirt. Or you can leave the top up. On most people it will reach that natural waist. Everybody’s natural waistline is different so that does not happen on everybody. Everybody’s girth is different. So when you take

Something else to think about with the High Waisted Brief is that we do not use elastic in the waistband. We use stretchable Lycra or whatever fabric that you pick as the waistband. It just fits a little snug almost like a girdle or a Spanks holding you in. But, if it is under a dress, that might be a little too much coverage or too thick this high up. So, you really want to think about what you will be wearing with the brief and what look you are trying to achieve.

Another thing to consider is if you are buying white, ivory, light colored like baby pink, you want to make sure you are not exposed. All of our light colored briefs are lined with bathing suit lining. So if you are getting those light colors from us, you will have that extra protection. Just like with the Velvet, if you are on the edge of a size you will want to go up because you now have an extra layer. Therefore, you want to go ahead and move up to the next side to be on the safe side. Also, think about if your dancer is going to be using it for a year, make sure to get a size that is not too tight now that you can grow into. If you are just at the beginning of that measurement or in the middle of the measurement, you should be fine with that size.

Again, if you are on the border between two sizes, you should move up to the next size. So if your hip is just at the edge, go up in size. Additionally, remember because the briefs are lined, they are snugger. Also, if the briefs are made from Velvet, the briefs are snugger. That way you will not feel so constricted.
