Evolution Dance Center Interview with Melissa Best

Melissa Best from the Evolution Dance Center in Leander, Texas, describes their dance studio as fresh, contemporary, current, and constantly evolving! They are passionate about growing artistic, independent, and technically proficient dancers.

Evolution Dance Center was founded by Melissa Best and Brianna Underwood in May 2013.  Melissa and Brianna’s shared passion of growing strong, technical dancers as well as building self esteem flows throughout the studio and into each class on the schedule.   Their staff is highly qualified and truly dedicated to the development of each individual student. At Evolution, they work together as a family to raise their dancers to be creative, technically proficient, determined and hard working. “Dance is both an art and a sport, and we create artists and athletes!” At Evolution, there is a place for every type of dancer and they offer their dancers many opportunities. They offer youth classes and competitive companies to their students. In addition to their camps and workshops, they also bring in outside choreographers for master classes. Their curriculum is designed to not only train them technically but to also enhance the creativity of all dancers. They believe children need discipline, structure and accountability.

Melissa believes their studio is truly set apart from other studios by their dancers. All of their dancers are very kind and welcoming to others and are very supportive of each other’s growth. Evolution encourages a competitive spirit within yourself rather than with each other. Also, their dancers are extremely versatile.

Melissa’s proudest moment as a dance coach was when their kids took second at nationals and they congratulated the team who won first place so genuinely. Their kids knew the company who took first deserved the win and were so happy with the outcome of the competition. They make Melissa very proud!

The biggest mistake Melissa sees dancers make is trying to master different styles of dance without taking ballet. Once the dancer gets into a ballet class, they will build a strong technical foundation to add onto the other styles.

Evolution’s goals for this year are to continue pushing their dancers technically and to challenge the boundaries of their choreography.

Brianna and Melissa opened Evolution Dance Center because they dream big and wanted to turn their ultimate dream into reality! They offer dance classes that teach Tap, Ballet, Acro, Hip Hop, Leaps & Turns, Contmporary, Jazz, Pointe, Improv and Adult Conditioning.

Evolve Dance Company is their dance company which consists of a group of dedicated and passionate dancers who train under the direction of Melissa Best and Brianna Underwood.  Evolution offers members of Evolve many chances to train under renowned choreographers, travel to dance conventions, perform and compete regionally and nationally.

According to Melissa, they have a great faculty and great students. They are a family who takes pride in working hard while still having fun.
