In Motion Training Center Interview with Nick Nicholls and Tracy Smith

OwnerTracyIn Motion Training Center in Hemet, California, is owned by Nick Nicholls and Tracy Smith. Nick is also their Tumbling Director and Tracy is their Creative Director. They are a high-energy, high-impact style dance studio that offers many styles of dance, as well as Tumbling and Cheer. They always strive to come up with original dance pieces for ages 18 months and up.

While in her years of dance training, Tracy experienced many different studios and has drawn some of the best aspects from them.  The outcome being that In Motion Training Center offers their instructional services in an equitable format for all their students; students are held to high standards and are expected to display good sportsmanship, cheering on fellow students; IMTC’s programs are challenging; they discourage cliques as they undermine teamwork. They also listen to their students in an effort to accommodate their personal goals into the studio’s curriculum. They believe these qualities make their studio stand out from other studios.

Every time they remind themselves of how far a student or group of students has progressed, Nick and Tracy are extremely proud.  Since just celebrating their second anniversary, it has been amazing to be reminded of the strides that their students have made in such a short time.  Many of their parents have expressed that they are very excited to be part of the In Motion Training Center, and they feel there is great potential for the future.

Nick and Tracy agree that by far the most common mistake that they see Fun at Studiowould have to be the lack of self confidence. Building that confidence up right from the beginning is key, and they have seen a dramatic improvement in this area.

For 2015-2016, their first goal was to build up the student base in the under age 5 range.  They ran a promotional program, and within two weeks, their classes were almost full.   Standardization is being established for these Tiny Tots and Combo classes.  They have also added more events that will lead to performance opportunities for both team and recreational students.

It seems it was a matter of being in the right place at the right time that prompted Tracy and Nick to open their studio. Tracy has been in dance since she was five years old, and she has also danced professionally, taught at several studios and other children’s establishments, and was also on a full scholarship in dance at UCR when a studio that she had worked at closed permanently.  In Nick’s childhood years, he had been in competitive gymnastics, and in a pinch, he had subbed for the tumbling coach at the studio where Tracy taught.  The opportunity just presented itself when the studio closed and Tracy and Nick acted on it.  They wanted to work in their own business, and this particular business allowed them to work in a business that utilized each of their areas of expertise.

In Motion Training Center is very busy. Their schedule includes not only their Jazz Classstudio events but also activities in the community. They have participated in events such as spirit week, anniversary celebration for our community, Halloween Haunted Maze and Performance, local Christmas parade, Christmas performance, Christmas/Holiday Party for their students and their families, Imagine (their annual recital), various performances around town, and all their team events.  Needless to say, their students stay very busy with the studio and community involvement.

  1. Tracy and Nick offer first class training for their students ranging in age from 18 months and up.

Tracy offers cutting edge choreography and training that challenges the individual dancers. Tracy and Nick offer equitable treatment of all their students, whether you take one class per week or fifteen, offering both recreational and team classes.

The facility is clean and up beat, with a nice lobby-waiting area for parents and visitors, who can observe the classes from either windows or monitors.

  2. I just have to say this is an amazing studio. My daughter started with one class when she was three just for fun. She is now five, in several classes and participates on the minis competition team and does solos.

Her growth in both confidence and technique has been wonderful to witness. Thanks to the skilled professionals she is training with. Can’t wait to see what the future holds for her. I am confident IMTC will take her far.
