Studio Botan Interview with Vivian Bisou

Studio Botan Vivian 06Studio Botan is San Francisco’s premier pole fitness studio. While many people think of pole dancing as something done in bars or gentlemen’s clubs, that simply is not true. Studio Botan offers pole dancing as a form of fitness, art and dance. They provide lessons and mini courses for complete beginners to more experienced dancers and also offer pilates, special workshops with master teachers and group parties.

Vivian Bisou, is the Manager at Studio Botan. She reports that they go beyond simply learning pole tricks, Their instructors have extensive dance and fitness training experience, so students will learn dance concepts and acquire the strength, grace and skills that can be applied to any form of dance. Fitness is emphasized, so students can combine their cardiovascular, strength, and flexibility training in every pole dance lesson. Their studio has tall, 14-foot spinning poles that are suitable for beginner classes as well as world-class competitions. They have relationships with national and internationally renowned pole athletes, who host workshops at Studio Botan several times a year.

Unlike most pole fitness/dancing studios, they offer classes to both women and men. By opening up their classes to people of all body types, fitness levels and genders, they hope to break down the stigmas that have been traditionally associated with pole dancing (it’s not just for strip clubs) and bring more mainstream appreciation for the dance, flexibility and strength needed for every pole lesson and routine.

Studio Botan offers Pole Classes, Pole Parties, Private Lessons and has specials during the year.

Pole dance and pole fitness training is one of the hottest trends for both women and men. Whether you’re a serious athlete or just looking to get into better shape, pole training can completely transform your upper body strength, core stamina, cardiovascular conditioning, flexibility and rhythm.

Whether it’s a Bachelorette party, Birthday party or Corporate event, come and dance, laugh, giggle, and pole with your friends to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime event that you will be talking about for years.

If you’re up to the challenge, private trainer sessions with our Instructors will replace your cardio, flexibility, and strength programs with a single fun workout that will leave you ripped and equipped with new moves to amaze your friends!

At Studio Botan, they also take great pride in being more than just a dance studio where students show up for a lesson and then leave – they really advocate a pole community, where people can get to know each other, support each other’s pole fitness progression, and discuss new pole moves, routines or other ideas. In the last three years, studio instructors and students have performed routines for their regular studio shows and recitals, traveled and competed in pole competitions together and developed strong relationships.

Vivian relates that the best moments in her coaching career come when she sees a student attain a goal that he or she has been working on for a while– whether it’s doing their first pull-up, or inverting for the first time, or accomplishing a beautiful square split. It is great to be able to share those moments of accomplishment with their students.

Regardless of whether the student is a beginner or an advanced student, this can happen . She says she knows from first-hand experience. When she takes classes, she sometimes finds herself doing it too. Studio Batan encourages their students to quiet their “inner critic” and be proud of all the things they do well, understand that with hard work there will always be room for more growth in the areas they want to improve, and most of all, to make sure they are having fun and enjoying the journey!

As an extra added attraction, Rodney James will be conducting his very sexy, world-famous Burlesque workshops on February 8th, the weekend before Valentine’s Day. This will be his first time at Studio Botan. Vivian says, “Come get your sexy-on!”

Vivian says Studio Botan has many goals. To start with, they want to continue to drive more mainstream recognition among men and women about pole dancing and fitness, and provide an open, and welcoming environment for anyone who wants to try a challenging form of exercise that combines dance, flexibility and strength. They would love to continue developing the pole fitness and dance community in San Francisco and a make it as popular and accessible as going to the gym or taking a yoga class.
