TCU Showgirls Dance Team Interview with Lindsay Westbrook

TCU Showgirls Dance Team is the official name of the dance team for Texas Christian University in pomFort Worth, Texas. Lindsay Westbrook, the Texas Christian University Spirit Coordinator, describes the the TCU Showgirls being first and foremost a spirit squad for the university that cheers year round for football, basketball, and baseball. The team is made up of well rounded young dancers trained in jazz, hip hop, and pom who must also be positive representatives for the athletic program and for Texas Christian University. Known for their entertaining style of dance, big hair, and flashy uniforms, they embody the spirit of all that for which Texas is known.

In Lindsay’s opinion, the Showgirls Dance Team is different from most other college dance teams dancerbecause they cheer for four different sports teams: football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and baseball. This means that the girls don’t get a break during the school year and are expected to remain consistent in their skills, appearance, and stamina during the whole school year. And, of course, the white cowboy boots, custom made by Justin Boots, definitely sets the TCU Showgirls apart from other dance programs!

According to Lindsay there are many “proudest” moments while being a part of the TCU Showgirls. For her, a flawless performance is always exciting. She was also very proud when the girls performed at events such as the Fiesta Bowl, the Rose Bowl, the Peach Bowl and the Super Bowl!

Their iconic “Cowboy uniform” along with their TCU Justin boots are showcased in the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, Georgia. The TCU Showgirls were able to see it on display during jazztheir visit to the Hall of Fame when they traveled to Atlanta this year for the Peach Bowl. It is a huge honor to have their team be a representative of the history of college football. That is definitely something of which to be proud.

Lindsay believes that the one thing that the seniors tend to know about dance that the younger dancers still have not yet learned is the ability to perform their dance style and in cowboy boots. Seniors on the Showgirls Dance Team definitely feel more comfortable in the unique dance style that the team has become known for in the collegiate sports world. The combination of stylized jazz, pom and hip hop, centered on the predominantly country theme that complements their cowboy style uniforms and cowboy boots, can be difficult for some of our rookie members at first. And learning to leap, kick, and pirouette in cowboy boots is certainly more difficult than the jazz shoes and tennis shoes that most of our dancers know and love.

Her main goal for the TCU Showgirls this year is to continue meeting the high standard set by previous teams in dance talent, performance level, and dedication to the program. Lindsay is confident that this upcoming team will be able to meet the standards set by previous teams, and even surpass them!
