The Vibe Dance Center Interview with Elizabeth Hamil and Christy McCabe

We are pleased to name The Vibe Dance Center as our Studio of the Month for the month of September. For this article, we interviewed Elizabeth Hamil and Christy McCabe, Owners and Artistic Directors of The Vibe Dance Center located in both Milledgeville and Eatonton, Georgia. They describe their studio as one that prides itself in the positive, creative, and nurturing environment it provides for dancers ages 2 to 18.  The Vibe gives a second home to many kids looking for a studio to help express themselves fully through the art of dance.

In their opinion, The V13524393_815818601888313_1903560629041620092_nibe is different from other studios because it always values quality over quantity and their dancer’s health is of utmost priority. They feel that The Vibe’s artistry is what gives them a different “vibe.” At The Vibe, they strive to pour love into everything they do and try not to take themselves too serious at times. Dance should always be fun!

Elizabeth and Christy cannot think of just one moment that would qualify as their “proudest” moment, but throughout the years of teaching, there is nothing better than seeing growth in their students, especially after a tough season. Seeing their students develop a good work ethic along with being a kind and humble leader is always what makes them proudest.

The biggest mistakes they see dancers make occurs when they see dancers going for “tricks” before they are ready and before they are properly trained. At The Vibe, they focus on correct training and strengthening before trying harder skills. Once the foundations are established, dancers are then able to try for a new “trick” with the strength to achieve it. Dance is so much more than tricks! It is what you feel when you dance!

Their biggest goal for this year is to enjoy the journey! – to take each day and make the most of it; and to keep pushing themselves as teachers and choreographers, so that they can push their dancers to grow and met their highest potential!

Elizabeth and Christy started The Vibe because they love children and love dance. They are also proud to give so many dancers a place to call “home” – a place where they can come and know they are loved, valued, and cherished while at the same time they are training and growing as dancers.

According to Elizabeth and Christy, The Vibe is fun and silly! They are constantly trying new things that layer and add onto their established technique. They understand the valuunspecified-9e of commitment of hard work and strive everyday to pass those values along to their dancers.

The Vibe is the home to five performing companies – Mini, Petite, Intermediate, Junior, and Senior Companies. Their members train year-round in Ballet, Contemporary, Lyrical, Tap, Hip Hop, Jazz, and a variety of other genres of dance. They travel all over the southeast United States taking classes from the nation’s top instructors and choreographers and performing in a number of venues. They have numerous regional and national awards that have been earned at some of the most prestigious competitions in the country.

The Vibe Dance Company requires passion, talent, commitment, hard work, an eagerness to learn, and a yearning to perform and mature as a dancer. What their students gain from their experience in Company is priceless—as both a dancer and an individual.

Their 2015-16 Company is comprised of 43 outstanding dancers from all over middle Georgia. Their dance companies provide a challenge for their more serious dance students and offer them the opportunity to travel and to learn from instructors other than Vibe instructors. These dedicated dancers are 5 to 18 years old and have competed among some of the nation’s best dance studios, learned from celebrated dance instructors and worked with some of the eminent choreographers.

All of their Company dancers must participate in one of The Vibe’s Summer Intensives and then audition to be in the Company, and the skills they learn will stay with them for a lifetime. The Vibe Dance Company is well respected and well known throughout the nation. It is an honor and a privilege to be a part of this esteemed group.
